CULTURAL PROGRAMS
PASCO offers many cultural programs that promote learning and community for our members. We aim to nurture the enthusiasm of our members to enjoy and sustain the wonderful culture, heritage, and values of the Filipino people.
PAROL MAKING
A parol is a lovely cultural Christmas decor item. It’s actually a lantern, the lighting of which signifies mutual hope. Its roots go far back in time to the barrio inhabitants who viewed them as guiding lights on their way to important Church events. They are typically displayed from December 16th until midnight on Christmas Eve and our parol making event is a fun way to learn about this tradition.
FILIPINO CLASS
Marunong ka ba mag-Tagalog? (Do you know how to speak Tagalog?)
The official language of the Philippine is called Tagalog. If you are not fluent in the Tagalog language and are interested in learning how to speak the language, PASCO is offering conversational Tagalog classes for all ages.
CULTURAL DANCE CLASSES
Everyone in these classes will become a part of the cultural dance troupe and will be able to perform at festivals and other venues that PASCO is invited to. These classes provide the participants the knowledge of their cultural heritage, customs, and traditions. Information about the geographical origin, meaning and significance of the dances are being taught during these classes.

PASCO RONDALLA
PASCO have been conducting rondalla classes since early 2000s under the tutelage of renowned Philippine banduria player Professor Edna Culig. These lessons stopped just before Covid and are now being revived. PASCO will be resuming teaching playing the traditional rondalla instruments.
Interested in joining the rondalla, contact edith@philamsocietyofcolorado.org.
The Philippine rondalla originated from Spain and was introduced to the Philippines during the colonial period. The ensemble was initially composed of guitars, bandurias and lauds. Over time, the Filipino musicians adapted and modified the instruments to create unique sounds.
